Doctoral Consortium Overview

InSITE (Informing Science + IT Education) conference invites doctoral candidates who are in advanced stages of their doctoral dissertation work to submit a proposal to the 3rd ISI Doctoral Consortium and present their study in areas related to informing science, information science, information systems, information security, information technology, or IT education.

The Doctoral Consortium provides students in advanced stages of their doctoral dissertation work an opportunity to share their research with peers and researchers in their field. Also, the consortium provides doctoral students a stage to formally present their dissertation work and gain feedback from other professors that supervise dissertations. Additionally, the consortium provides doctoral students the opportunity to meet and network with other doctoral students and researchers and so to initiate new research projects or develop their network of research colleagues.

·         There are several eligibility requirements noted below under the “Eligibility & Nomination Conditions” section.

·         There are several requirements noted below under the “Submission Instructions” section. Each submission must include all the required documentations.

·         Moreover, there are additional two requirements from all accepted students to the ISI Doctoral Consortium: 1) All accepted students will be required to pay the conference registration (as the conference is unable to provide any sponsorship or subsidies); 2) All accepted students must attend and present their study in the consortium at the InSITE conference.

Submission Instructions

The language of the conference is English. All Doctoral Consortium submissions are reviewed by two or more reviewers who are professors with dissertation supervision experience. Each eligible student must submit a full proposal package that contains the Doctoral Consortium proposal and the student’s application information page. Both required documents must be submitted at the same time for the proposal package to be reviewed.

Following are the two specific documents required for the submission (i.e. “the proposal package”):

The Doctoral Consortium Proposals should be submitted as part of the proposal package. This document should be a five to seven pages long (5-7 pages) and include a 150-200-word abstract (that will be published online and in the conference CD) followed by a clear description of the research problem under study, the theoretical background guiding the study, the methodology proposed (or used), the target population (if applicable), and the proposed solution (or results, if available). Original thinking is valued. This document may be in either PDF or Word .doc format.

The student’s application information page should be submitted as part of the proposal package. In this two pages or shorter document, the student should include the name of the institution, the dissertation title, the educational background (previous degrees), professional background, previous doctoral consortia attended or planning to attend in the near future (if applicable), the projected completion date (or the actual completion date for those that graduated), and statement agreeing to present in the conference. This document may be in PDF, Word .doc format.

Eligibility &
Nomination Conditions

Doctoral students nominated to participate in the ISI Doctoral Consortium must meet all of the following eligibility and nomination conditions:

  1. Students must be currently admitted or recently graduated from a doctoral program.

  2. Students must have passed their qualifying examination (or equivalent stage, such as finished their doctoral coursework) and be in advanced stages of their doctoral dissertation study.

  3. Submit the two files that (i.e. the proposal package) that includes both required documents (in the appropriate formats noted above):

a.     The Doctoral Consortium proposal

b.     The application information page

4.   Submit the two files of he proposal package to Dr. Yair Levy via levyy@nova.edu.

      Please note "InSITE 2009 - DC Proposal Package" in the subject line of the e-mail  message (note that without this, your proposal may be deleted by       the anti-spam software on the university server!)

Note:

·         There is no limit to the total number of nominees that can be submitted from a single university. However, all submissions must include all requirements as well as follow all the eligibility and nomination conditions noted above.

·         Please note that NO masters’ thesis will be accepted for the Doctoral Consortium.

2.   The Doctoral Consortium chair will review each submission and assign it to at least two members of the review committee

3.   Proposal Package submissions are accepted only in formats noted above in the “Submissions Instructions” section by emailing the attached zip file to Yair Levy with subject line "InSITE 2009 - DC Proposal Package"

4.   For accepted student to participate in the doctoral consortium, appear on the program and in print, the student must pay the registration fee by March 15, 2009.

5.   For accepted student to participate in the doctoral consortium, appear on the program and in print, the student must agree to attend and present their study in the consortium @ the InSITE conference.
